Product Description
Soil Penetrometer (Soil Compaction)
Measures soil compaction in PSI & KPa to max of 1500 PSI (downward pressure). Generally plant roots will struggle to penetrate soil that has a reading of 300 PSI or above.
Monitor overall soil compaction and quality quickly and effectively with this quality Australian-made Penetrometer. Increased soil compaction results in a highter soil bulk density, which can reduce water infiltration, reduce soil strength, increase run-off and erosion potential, and reduce site productivity.
This quality Hydraulic Penetrometer has a stainless steel probe and is ideal for soil measuring soil compaction. Do you know how hard or tight the hard pan is in your soil, at depths from 0 to 18 inches (45 cm)? The only sure way to measure soil compaction is with a Penetrometer.
Penetrometers (or Soil Compaction meters) are used to determine the density of soil. An operator pushes a rod with attached cone into the ground. The resistance of the cone as it is pushed in the ground is measured by the Penetrometer.

New favourite toy! It’s unbelievable how much I’ve learned about my soils after just a few weeks of using the penetrometer. Relatively inexpensive good quality and super easy to use. The spike feels a bit fragile but haven’t had any issues despite going well over the recommended pressure.
