1 x High quality Backyard Compost Thermometer : ideal for creating biologically active compost. This thermometer is designed for monitoring the core temperatures of a backyard sized compost heap or bin. The thermometer comes with composting instructions in the packaging.
When making compost it is very important to know the compost's temperature. A high quality compost thermometer from Groundgrocer.com will enable you to monitor the core temperature of your compost pile accurately and easily.
The temperature reading will tell you when to add water to your compost, when to turn the pile and when it is mature and ready to use. Because heat is an essential element in the production of good quality compost, you want to ensure you have a very accurate compost thermometer to monitor the enitre production process.
If the compost is too hot, it will destroy beneficial microorganisms that are essential to the proper conversion of your compost materials into humus. If the compost temperature is too cold microbial activity will be reduced and weed seeds and any pathogens are not destroyed. In such cases compost can take a very long time to mature. So be sure! Purchase high quality compost thermometer equipment and accessories all right here at Groundgrocer. We only supply the highest quality compost thermometer's available on the market.

1 x REOTEMP Moisture Meter is a self-calibrated instrument and indicates the moisture content of your compost pile or soil sample by means of a sensor at the bottom of the probe.
Easy to operate:
- Power source: one AA battery
- Easy to calibrate for any compost or soil type
- 0-10 scale
Compost or soil moisture is measured by inserting the probe into the soil at each location to be tested. The unit is sensitive only at the tip, therefore the reading obtained on the meter indicates the amount of moisture only at the probe tip. Now you can determine the moisture condition of your compost without having to remove any mulch or soil. Just insert the probe directly into the compost. Instantly, your MOISTURE METER will give you an accurate reading of moisture content.
It is quite important that the calibration of the unit is performed in the same compost composition and location as that in which it will be used. Take a sample of compost which is already at your ideal moisture content, this will vary depending on what your needs are. Remove the black plug located on the back of the unit. Then insert the moisture meter so that the tip is in the centre of your sample. Place a small screwdriver in the adjustment slot and adjust to a reading of 5 on the 0-10 scale.
Sub-soil/sub-compost moisture mapping - This technique is used primarily for checking coverage and penetration of a sprinkler system. After a normal watering, take readings at different locations and at two or three different depths. Next, create a map plotting each of the readings. An ideal system would show equal readings at all locations and depths. Poor coverage would show erratic readings at multiple locations with the same depth. Poor penetration (or insufficient application) would be indicated by unequal amounts of moisture at the same location but different depths.
Other applications of sub-soil moisture mapping would be locating leaking water lines, checking effectiveness of septic tank leach lines, locating surface water springs, and locating depths of shallow water tables.
The battery is included and is already installed. With normal usage it should last one season. When replacement becomes necessary, (unable to obtain a meter reading of 10 in saturated soil even with Calibration Trimmer in maximum clockwise position) replace with a standard AA cell. Care must be taken to maintain correct polarity of the battery. The plus (+) side is marked on the holder.

Delivery was very quick. Very happy with this product, don't know how I ever made composte without this duo. I can now make sure my brew is at the exact right mosture and temp to get fabulous composte in just a few weeks by adding just the right amount of green or brown to keep the temp just perfect, no more guessing. I now know before I had these my pile was getting too hot and killing everything. Very happy. Thank you.
